Psychological & Educational Statistics

 In research, psychologists use two kinds of statistics, descriptive and inferential. Descriptive statistics simply give a general picture of the scores in a given group. They include the measures of central tendency and the measures of variability.  Central tendency involves different kinds of averages: the mean, median, and mode. Variability involves the standard deviation, which indicates how far scores in a group are likely to be from the average. Inferential statistics are used to help psychologists draw inferences, or conclusions, from the data obtained from their research. The most common statistical tests include the student’s T-test and the Analysis of Variance (or F-test) &correlation coefficient & its statistical significant .

 Psychological& Educational assessment is used for a variety of purposes, ranging from screening job applicants to providing data for research projects. Most assessment methods fall into one of three categories: observational methods, personality inventories, or projective techniques. This course aims to explain the history of psychological assessment and its main concepts, the conditions of  good scale such as validity, reliability, and objectivity. This course is also meant to manifest the applications of psychological testing in the field life and classifications of educational & psychological tests. This course also aims to show how we can test abilities, attitudes, and educational interests and how we can overcome the methodological problems  to make a good profile of the student.

Psychology From Islamic Prospective

 The aim of this course is to provide the student with the concept of the Islamic rooting of Psychology, in addition to the Islamic view of the Universe and Existence. Furthermore, it presents the perception and its criticism in the light of Islam, and it introduces the conditions of the Islamic rooting of psychology as well as the principles of the scientific and legislative criticism for many exotic western psychological concepts in terms of that many of them are affected by the western cultural environment. It introduces the Muslim Psychologists methods in linking the legislative evidences with the psychological facts and theories. Finally, the course introduces some specific Islamic information sources in the field of  searching in the behavioral sciences and discusses the meanings of some psychological processes in the light of the Holy Quran and Sayings and Teachings of Muhammad, Peace and blessing of Allah be upon Him.

Psychological Disorders

 This course deals a study Psychological disorder such as neurotic disorders which includes anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive behavior and hysterics in their clinical form. It highlights their reasons and their methods of study through a theoretical examination of a few typical cases in an attempt to show the symptoms and the role of the psychological therapist. The course also tackles concepts of behavioral disorders such as withdrawal anxiety, aggression against others, indecency, immaturity, psychopath, emotional disorders and others as well as the characteristics of such disorders during childhood and adolescence. Besides, the course demonstrates strategies for educational, psychological and environmental treatment as well as the various types of psychosomatic disorders.  The course deals with the definition of the clinical interview, its types,  historical background,  contents,  and the conditions of its application. The student in this course is required to present a case study in which he or she study a case for a problematic child in a school to point out what type of  behavioral disorder the child has (i.e. conduct disorder, defiance, or impulse control disorder). The student is also expected to conduct a battery of psychological tests to help him or her in the diagnosis of the disorder and in the writing up a report on the case including the recommendations and the treatment planning.
